A Message From The Captain

To all my loyal and new customers:

We have long been the only charter in the Munising and Marquette area named Shelter Bay Charter's. Our loyal and new charter clients have however made us aware of the deceptive practices of our neighbor who claims to be Shelter Bay Charters, and who has assumed our name in their advertising online and in and around the Munising and Marquette areas, as well as downstate Michigan. Please do not be confused by those advertisements, we are stil here to serve you.

The same charter is trying to capitalize on our name does not use all legal boats, and also has unlicensed captains running his boats on a regular basis. By law, charter boats are required to have a captain's coat guard license posted inside the boat where it can be easily seen. The boat must also be inspected and licensed by the state of Michigan. The sticker should be in clear view on the outside of the boat. Anyone chartering a boat should ask to see these license. If the operator of the boat cannot show proof of these license, then it is an illegal charter, and you are not getting what you assume to be offered. It is wise to report such illegal boats to the authorities.

I started Shelter Bay Charters in 1986, and I have worked very hard to give my customers all I could. I do and always have run a 100% fully legal operation. I am a licensed Captain - licensed by the United States Coast Guard - and I comply with all random drug testing programs. My boat is licensed, inspected by the State of Michigan, and kept in top running condition. I have never been towed in off of Lake Superior.

We are fully compliant with the United State Coast Guard. That is very important to your trip and your safety. The fact of the matter is that we are the only charter service in Shelter Bay that is fully legal, fully compliant, and can ensure your safety to the level required by the United States Coast Guard. All other charters in Shelter Bay are not licensed by the Coast Guard, and as a result, their boats are not compliant - a fact that has been proven and detrimental for people taking those charters when those boats broke down and it was necessary for the boats (and their fishermen) to be towed off the lake.

Compliance does not mean expense for you. The fact of this matter is that I am highly competitively priced - and lower than the guys that don't comply.

As always, we stand behind our services, without question. If you ever feel that you didn't get what you expected, and you are not happy, you don't pay. That's my guarantee.
